I have been wanting to compose or arrange music for a long time. It’s a joyful and mindful thing. I love many different forms of music but have a special place in my heart for vocal harmony.
The North Land which I worked on for this project is only the second piece I’ve ever done (the first was a Christmas song for my daughter, called Snowfall, about 5 years ago).
I dream of being a composer living in a cabin by a lake or fjord so hopefully this is the first step towards that entirely realistic career switch.
My music credentials: I play violin and viola middlingly (I reached grade 7 viola at school, and I now play in a community orchestra). I’ve sung as an alto in semi-professional capacity in various vocal groups, including a classical five-piece where we notably sang Handel’s Dixit Dominus one to a part (tremendous fun!), and as part of an Andrews Sisters style trio, whose greatest achievement was to sing with a live Big Band for a lawyers’ event at the Guildhall in London.
My children who feature in my recorded song are D, 18, a linguist, and L, 14, a musician, writer and actor.
