Jupiter Road Sunrise

Acrylic painting of abstract landscape sunrise
Acrylic paint and pen on two 20″ x 20″ canvases

This painting was inspired by a sunrise in Weaverville, North Carolina, and is separated onto two square canvases. The original sketch was created in the winter, and by the time the painting was finished, it was spring. There are elements of both seasons in this painting, and the pink blossoms were exactly what it needed to feel complete. Western North Carolina is a new environment for me, therefore fresh inspiration abounds! I’m in awe most days of the beauty that surrounds me.

Process

I like to start each project with freeform painting. It’s an opportunity to create completely without boundaries, and just let the canvas tell me what it wants and needs. This serves as a vibrant under-layer for the painting that evolves on top. That way, each painting has a secret story underneath that one might be able to feel along with the final image that they see.

Evolution of the painting, from the sketch to the final piece.
