About The Club

We are a group of creators working at Automattic, inspired by our passions.
Even though creative pursuits bring so much joy and fulfillment, it can be hard to carve out the space to make them a priority. Creators Club was designed to both showcase the amazing creative talent of Automatticians, and also, to provide the impetus for bringing our projects to life. We all had an end goal we were working toward, which can be exactly what’s needed to make time in the hectic pace of life for creative stillness.
All modalities are welcome, as you’ll see by the wide range represented here. We have 12 weeks to complete our individual projects, and during that time, meet bi-weekly to share our processes and troubleshoot any stuck points. The results of our efforts are what you’ll experience in these projects.
Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy!
P.S. Automatticians, want to join the next round of Creators Club? Follow the Creators Club P2 for announcements.

The North Land
I have written an acapella arrangement for three voices (SAT, or really AAT/B), a nostalgic song about Scotland based around the melody from the first movement of Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony. I have persuaded my 18 year old son (tenor/baritone) and 14 year old daughter (alto) to sing it with me. Below is the finished article as good as we could get it in a couple of hours. I’m very proud of them/us! If you scroll…

Portraits of my Family
In Watercolor As I’ve worked on improving my portraiture skills, I’ve focused on painting the people I know and love. A teacher of mine suggested that painting people we don’t know may be easier, because we don’t have the heart connection to them that makes “mistakes” more risky. I tried that for a while and discovered that the heart connection is what makes me love painting these portraits. In fact, I put so much of…

Jupiter Road Sunrise
This painting was inspired by a sunrise in Weaverville, North Carolina, and is separated onto two square canvases. The original sketch was created in the winter, and by the time the painting was finished, it was spring. There are elements of both seasons in this painting, and the pink blossoms were exactly what it needed to feel complete. Western North Carolina is a new environment for me, therefore fresh inspiration abounds! I’m in awe most…

Wet Whistle
A few favorite drinks. In a recent work meeting, our ice breaker was to each share a boring fact about ourselves. I shared that I like water. We all thought that was hysterical for some reason. I wanted to incorporate that fun moment into my project, so my water bottle is the foundation of Wet Whistle (credit to Pam Kocke for the title).
